How To Use A Face Scrub? - A Complete Guide

Skincare is still something a lot of people have failed to understand and adapt to. A face scrub especially confuses them. How to use it? When to use it? How much to use? Or even how often should it be used? If you too are one of them, we’re here to help you out. The face scrub is an essential part of every skincare routine and should never be skipped. We’ll tell you the right way to use a face scrub, but first let’s understand why you need to use a face scrub.

What’s a Face Scrub?

Clogged pores can lead to acne and inflammation on the skin, which we’re sure you’d want to avoid. Whilst a face wash can help clean the surface of the skin, a face scrub will deeply cleanse and make it look fresh and healthy! Whether you are looking for a face scrub for oily skin or normal skin, we have it all!

But here are some dos and don’ts you should keep in mind when using a face scrub.

Face scrubbing steps

Everyone loves to have natural and beautiful skin but finding enough time to take care of your skin can be difficult nowadays. We have listed down easy face-scrubbing steps for you to follow:

  1. Cleanse your face with a gentle cleanser and rinse with water: Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. Then, splash your face with lukewarm water to prepare it for cleansing. Apply a gentle cleanser to your face, massaging it into your skin in circular motions. Pay extra attention to areas that tend to accumulate dirt and oil, such as your nose, chin, and forehead. Rinse off the cleanser with lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.

  2. Exfoliate your skin using a scrub: Mix together equal parts sugar and honey to create a natural scrub. Apply the scrub to your face using your fingertips, massaging it into your skin in gentle circular motions. Focus on the areas that are most prone to blackheads and whiteheads, such as your nose and chin. Rinse off the scrub with lukewarm water and pat your face dry.

  3. Apply a face pack made of multani mitti (fuller's earth) and rose water:

A lot of us wonder if we can use a face pack after a scrub. Well, yes! Mix together multani mitti and rose water to create a face pack. Apply the pack to your face using your fingertips, making sure to cover your entire face evenly. Leave the pack on for 10-15 minutes, or until it dries completely. As the pack dries, it will draw out impurities from your skin and tighten your pores.

  4. After 10-15 minutes, rinse off the face pack with water and pat your face dry: Use lukewarm water to rinse off the face pack, making sure to remove all traces of the pack from your skin. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.

  5. Massage your face with a few drops of facial oil: Apply a few drops of facial oil to your fingertips and massage it into your skin using gentle circular motions. This will help nourish and hydrate your skin, leaving it soft and supple.

  6. Finish by applying a light moisturizer: Apply a light moisturizer to your face to lock in the moisture and protect your skin. Gently massage the moisturizer into your skin using upward motions, focusing on your forehead, cheeks, and chin. Allow the moisturizer to absorb into your skin before applying any makeup or going to bed.

First face wash or scrub

One of the most important confusion among all of us is about what to use first, scrub or face wash? While both the products are different in the skincare routine, what to use first face wash or scrub is a very common confusion. But with mCaffeine, you need not worry at all. We have made it very easy for our customers to understand the basic difference between both products. Reading this blog will give you the answer whether use face wash or scrub first.

The difference between face wash and face scrub

A face wash is a gentle cleanser that is used to remove dirt, oil, and makeup from the face. It typically comes in the form of a gel, foam, or cream and is designed to clean the face without causing irritation.

A face scrub, on the other hand, is a more abrasive exfoliating product that removes dead skin cells and can help with skin texture and brightness. It contains small granules or beads that work to physically scrub away dead skin cells, leaving the skin feeling smooth and refreshed.

Who should use a face scrub vs. face wash

The bottom line is that both face scrubs and facial cleansers can offer valuable benefits to anyone looking to improve their skincare routine. Face scrubs are particularly effective at revitalising the skin and should be used once or twice a week, while facial cleansers are an essential daily step. By selecting a scrub and cleanser tailored to your skin type from mCaffeine, and incorporating potent ingredients like Vitamin C or hyaluronic acid, you can ensure that you're getting the most nourishing advantages from either product.

mCaffeine uses natural ingredients such as coffee, hyaluronic acid, green tea and vitamin C in our face wash and face scrubs. There are various options available according to your skin type and issue. You can choose based on your requirements.

Should I use face wash after scrub?

To kickstart a top-notch skincare routine, begin with the crucial first step of cleansing. If you're planning to exfoliate, make sure to prioritise using your facial cleanser prior to applying the scrub. To achieve a complexion that is clear and radiantly healthy, it's recommended to cleanse your face twice daily, in the morning and evening. While using exfoliants, be mindful to adhere to the instructions provided as excessive usage of these powerful scrubs can lead to the removal of essential oils from the skin, which may cause oil overproduction or skin irritation.

Importance of face scrubs

Wondering what is the use of face scrubs? Using a face scrub is an important part of a skincare routine as it helps to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells, dirt, and other impurities that can accumulate on the surface of the skin. This build-up can contribute to clogged pores, uneven skin tone, and a dull complexion. By regularly using a face scrub, you can help to improve the texture and appearance of your skin by revealing fresher, brighter, and smoother skin underneath.

Additionally, exfoliating the skin can also aid in the absorption of other skincare products, such as moisturisers and serums, by removing any barriers on the surface of the skin that may impede their penetration. However, it's important to note that using a face scrub too frequently or aggressively can potentially damage the skin, so it's essential to follow the recommended usage guidelines and choose a product that's suitable for your skin type.

DOs:

  1. Cleanse Your Face Before Exfoliating It -  The first step of any skincare routine is cleansing. Start by cleansing your face with the Coffee Face Wash. It cleanses and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth.

  2. Scrub Gently - Massage gently for a few minutes to unclog pores and slough off dead skin cells. An effective yet gentle formula is recommended. Infused with Pure Arabica Coffee, Walnut, Vitamin E and Argan Oil, the Coffee Face Scrub exfoliates, removes blackheads and de-tans skin without making it dry.

  3. Exfoliate at Night - It is advised to make exfoliating a part of your nighttime skincare routine. Because exfoliating reveals a fresh layer of skin that can get easily damaged if you step out in the sun right after scrubbing.

  4. Apply Moisturizer - Restoring moisture into the skin is important after exfoliating. A layer of the Coffee Face Moisturizer will provide nourishment to the skin and prevent dryness.

  5. Use Face Scrub According to Your Skin Type -  It will ensure your skin is deep cleansed without aggravating your concerns.

DON’Ts:

  1. Over-exfoliate - While exfoliating is good for the skin, over-exfoliating can be quite damaging. It can damage the protective layer of the skin and cause redness, irritation and severe dryness. Therefore, it’s advised to use a face scrub once or twice a week ONLY!

  2. Exfoliate After a Skin Treatment - If you have just gotten a facial or any other skin treatment, do not exfoliate your skin for a week post treatment because it may cause permanent skin damage.

  3. Exfoliate if it Irritates the Skin - If you have decided to give face scrub a try, that ends up irritating your skin, then stop immediately. Do your research before opting for a face scrub.

  4. Scrub for Too Long - Firstly, be gentle while scrubbing. Secondly, don’t scrub for over a minute. Doing it for too long can irritate the skin and at times even lead to acne.

  5. Use It on Active Acne - Don’t use any kind of scrub on your face as it may cause an increase in inflammation making your acne issue even worse. It is best to let your acne settle down before using a face scrub.

  6. Use It on Wounds - If you have any wounds or scars on your face that are healing then avoid using a scrub. The wound is in the process of healing and if you hinder it, it may cause an infection leaving a permanent scar on your face.
